4. Final note for SQSS Badminton for the year 2014

Today is the 31st of Dec 2014,
Besides from celebrating the in coming of the year 2015 and spending time with your family and loved ones.
Today is also a good day for you to set your targets and goal for the year 2015.

Go grab yourself a pen and a piece of paper and list down your targets and goal for the year 2015,

The trick is, you need to be specific about your goals and not set goals like, "I want to be a better person" and "I want to improve in my studies". You need to be more specific.

It doesn't always has to be something that is related to badminton, such as, I want to make it to west zone top 4, I want to make 2 more rounds up the Ashaway Cup and etc...

It can also be related to your academic, such as, I want to be improve my D&T grades by 2 grades, I want to improve my Maths grade by 3 grades and etc...

It can also be about your personal life, spending an extra 2 hours of time with you family and friends, finish reading 20 storybooks and etc...

Get your priorities right and focus on the ACTIONS that will lead you to achieving them because goals and targets do not drop from the sky, the same goes for money and good grades, They cannot be achieved by sitting down and doing nothing. And I can tell you, the only thing that will get from the sky from sitting down and doing nothing is bird shit.

So... Go now!

List your targets and goals, then followed by listing the actions that you are going to perform to help you achieve them. Be true to yourself and be realistic about your targets and goals. I am sure all of you will be able to achieve them if you put your heart into them and I wish for all of your success!

Cleaning up the Badminton Cabinet

During the holidays,

The teachers and the seniors have taken the initiative to clean up our badminton cabinet.

Yes, We have a cabinet for badminton at the back of the stage and this is a picture of the cabinet before the the clean up.

I almost fainted when i opened up the cabinet doors.

First, we de-cluttered the cabinet, then....

We sorted out the shuttles and put them into their respective boxes

Still not good enough

We even added labels to the box for easy identification

There you have it, our Badminton Cabinet with all the shuttles and nets locked up nice and safe.

The seniors really put in a lot of effort to make our badminton cabinet usable again. Please take very good care of it by returning all the items in the cabinet back to their respective places after use, so that it will remain usable for more years to come.

The turn out for the open house was better compared to last year as we can see more primary school pupils coming in.

Thank you for those who came down to take care of the booth on Saturday and also Sandy for planning the schedule for the open house.

And the updated poster would not have been possible without the help of those who came to school especially on Friday to prepare for the booth.

End of Ashaway Badminton Tournament update

We have come to the end of the Ashaway Badminton Tournament for this year.

No, no one came in as champion for their division.

But, this year, we have more players making it to the 3rd and even 4th round this year. Which i think is an improvement compared to last year.

I have made a copy of the results for this year's tournament for future reference.
Results for 2014 Ashaway Badminton Tournament

And i can see our players all getting warmed up for West Zone in January, which is only 1 month+ to go.

From now on, we really have to fully utilize each and every one of our training to get ourselves to tip top condition, both physically and mentally.

Last but not least, we would like to see more of our players participating in tournaments like these so that our players can gain more match experiences which really can make a big different during a competition.

And once again, CONGRATULATIONS to all the players who have participated in the Ashaway tournament for you have gained or solidified the priceless experience of playing in an actual tournament.

Ashaway Badminton Tournament Update

We gathered outside the school's gate at 0715 on the 16/11/14 ( Sunday) for our "Journey to the East".

We arrived at Pasir Ris Sports and Recreational Centre for Day 1 of the Ashaway Badminton Tournament.

Upon reaching the tournament location we collected our goodies bags and settled down for the matches.

Just look at all these happy faces after collecting their goodies bag.

Our girls team

Our boys team

As usual, the whole hall was in a mess, with participates rushing in for their goodies bag, kids running around and chief umpires trying to get the scheduled players to register their attendances for the following match.

But fortunately, the chaos gradually subsided after the commencement of the first match.

What the hall looks like after the chaos had subsided

I apologise for not being able to show how the hall looked like before the first match started because it was really chaotic.

There were both hits and misses. But what i observed in general is that all the players who played on that day played much better when compared to the friendly match against Junyuan Secondary School.

Congratulations to those who have managed to out done your opponents on Day 1.

And for those who did not, I want you take this as a learning experience and focus on strengthening your weakness during training. Meaning, to really take training more seriously so that history will not repeat.

It is also very heartening to see our players taking the initiative to root for each other during their matches. I certainly would like to see more these and I thank the seniors for showing such good examples to the juniors.

And here are some of the highlights for Day 1

Dinesh (1st match)

Dinesh waiting eagerly to receive

Dinesh, after umpire announced "match point"

Dinesh unleashing his wrath on his poor opponent.

Wendy (1st match)

The girls team waiting in anticipation for Wendy's match

Wendy, we have your back covered!

Rhui Qing (1st match)

Rhui Qing posing for the tournament official photographer with his umpire and opponent

Rhui Qing rumbling out with his opponent

Matthias (1st match)

Matthias against his old rival from Junyuan Sec

Evans (1st match)

Evans, scheduled for the last match of the day.

I'm looking forward to Day 2
